The Basin Chairlift was built in 1972 and, with a central span of 308 m (1,010 ft), is considered to be the longest single chairlift span in the world. The chairlift (complete with safety mechanisms) spans a huge natural basin in Cataract Gorge and its slow speed allows passengers to take in and photograph the ancient rock gorge.
